There is no set theme, but imagery might convey a sense of community and a celebration of living in Somerville. We provide a column wrapped in unprimed canvas. You will have a week to finish your column for the Opening Celebration and the work will stay up through September. JURIED ART COMPETITION - June 1, 2008
Now accepting artwork for our July 2008 exhibition. We are an artist-run arts organization dedicated to promoting emerging artists, one of the few online galleries in continuous operation for over 5 years. The exhibition will include thirty artists; invitations will be distributed to over 30,000 galleries, collectors, and artists. All artwork submitted will be presented online prior to the exhibition so visitors of Projekt30 may help select which artists will be included in the exhibition. Visitors have the option of contacting any participating artist with feedback or opportunities. Unlike other juried exhibitions, all participants receive exposure. Fee varies: $35 for 10 images, free for members.

AMERICAN TRADITIONS JURIED COMPETITION - June 14, 2008
The Art Guild (TAG) of Port Washington in conjunction with the Gallery at Elderfields is launching their First Open Juried Competition themed “American Traditions”. Interpret the theme in any way that fits with your idea of "American Traditions." Original artwork will be juried for acceptance into this show based quality of work and interpretation of the theme. Decision of the Selection Committee and Jurist are final. Awards will be determined, using the same criteria, by Howard Rose, fine artist & juror. First prize will be $500, second prize $250 and third prize will be $100. Your work can be contemporary, realist, impressionistic, abstract or otherwise but it must relate to the theme, "American Traditions" in any 2D medium. The Selection Committee will jury entries from digital images or slides. Participants will be notified of acceptance via e-mail. The show will open on July 6th and continue through Aug. 2nd, 2008. After two years post-Katrina as a regional show, the George Ohr National Challenge—a highly visible and strong sales exhibit—returns in 2008 at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi, Mississippi. Jurors are: ceramist James Tanner of Minnesota, 3D; printmaker Ron Pokrasso of Santa Fe, 2D. $4,000 in awards. This is a major exhibit for sales of art work. The selected artist will have a part time position with the program offering $25,000 for one year, with an opportunity for a second year funded at the same rate. Artists who have experience working with glass (especially hot glass), metals/jewelry, wood/furniture, plaster, and sculpture are encouraged to apply. The Master Craftsman Program residency will not focus on a single specialty, but provide an experience to broaden the artist's skills. Residency responsibilities include participation in studio projects, teaching within medium, contributions to community projects, development of personal work, and commitment to studio aspirations. Artists who have completed their MFA within the last two years are strongly encouraged to apply. Selected finalists should be available to travel for an interview. Entry fee.

The Barracks Row Main Street in Washington, DC seeks an artist or artist team to design, create and install an urban mural for the SE Freeway overpass that divides the south end of 8th Street SE, now known as Barracks Row. The goal of this project is to create a unique landmark that expresses the character of the surrounding neighborhood. The large mural will help draw residents and non-residents for repeated viewings to the area and reinforce a sense of place within this community. Entry fee.

OPEN CALL FOR SHORT VIDEOS - June 1, 2008
Stomper is an event exploring the collaborative possibilities for music, film, art and video with a history of carrying out events at venues both nationally and internationally. It was originally launched in New York and has since expanded to the London art community. It currently manifests itself as a monthly event, consisting of an artist video screening, followed by DJ sets. CLASSIC NUDE ART COMPETITION - June 15, 2008
This is an interactive contest for emerging artist to submit their artworks to be displayed and judged on the web. Last year over 1,000 submissions were received in all different mediums. Artists submitted sculptures, photography, paintings, whatever they could express "purism", CAF’s guiding principle, through the most. The winner of this ongoing series, that takes place four times a year, gets his/her artwork featured on a prominent billboard in the art district of a major city. This exhibition (upcoming exhibition entitled: The Maine Scene) is open to works in all two-dimensional and photographic media depicting scenes of Maine as seen through the eyes of the artist. The County of Ventura is seeking an artist to create and install a public art component on a concrete retaining wall that was built as part of the Piru - Camulos Recreational Trail Project. Ultimately this recreational trail will connect Piru to historic Rancho Camulos. The trail is built on an abandoned railroad right of way. Future plans call for new railroad tracks to be placed parallel to the trail to accommodate passenger rail service from Ventura to Santa Clarita. The wall measures approximately 370' by 6.5'. The completed artwork does not need to cover the entire surface area. The total available budget for the artwork is $60,000, which includes artist design fees, materials, fabrication and installation costs. Entry fee.

INTERNATIONAL SHOEBOX SCULPTURE EXHIBITION - August 29, 2008
The University of Hawaii Art Gallery is accepting entries for its triennial invitational exhibition The 10th International Shoebox Sculpture Exhibition. The challenge of creating works on a small scale while maintaining integrity and control of sculptural elements is central to the concept of the exhibition. Artists will be selected from a review of their images and exhibition records. About 150 works are anticipated to be included in the initial showing at the University of Hawaii Art Gallery from March 1 - April 9, 2009. Approximately half of the works will travel to other museums and galleries through 2011. A full-color catalogue will be published. Entry fee.

Transit riders reach the train platform 110 feet below the surface using a series of criss-crossing escalators and staircases as well as fast elevators. A prime art zone is an architectural feature wall reaching from ground level to the train boarding area, which will be designed as a porous, unifying experience for the passengers using the station. CALL FOR PEACE CORPS PHOTOGRAPHY - May 29, 2008
A show of photographs created by Peace Corps Volunteers during its long history. The 2008 Peace Corps Exhibition will take place in Fort Collins, Colorado during the International Peace Corps Reunion. Selected images will be exhibited in the Center's gallery during the reunion, August 20 - August 30, 2008 and on the Center's website for two additional years. There are also plans for a traveling exhibition. Entry fee.

CALL FOR OUTDOOR ART FESTIVAL ENTRIES - June 1, 2008
September 20 and 21, 2008. The outdoor venue is located along the edge of Lake Anne in the historic heart of Reston Virginia, the charming Lake Anne Village Center. A juried event, the festival will feature local and regional fine artists in both 2D and 3D media. Artists living in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia are invited to submit a CD of four images of their work and a booth image for consideration. Entry fee.

CALL FOR ART WALK ENTRIES - May 22, 2008
A fine art walk in the Grand Pacific Junction district of Olmsted Falls. This is an art walk free to the public that lasts for the duration of 4 weeks in the windows of the shops in this district as well as in the gallery. Selected pieces will be on display in the windows at all times. The remaining participants will be displayed in the gallery at Simple Expressions for viewing during open hours. Cash awards based on the number of entries received. In addition, a People’s Choice award will be selected. The winning artist of the People’s Choice award receives a solo exhibit opportunity at Simple Expressions. Entry fee.

The Competition and Showcase screenings feature the best animation from around the world. The OIAF receives over 2000 entries. Only 100 are selected to be screened. Seeking submissions for a national contest in conjuntion with our annual symposium on copyright issues. This year's theme is "Copyright Monopoly: Playing the Innovation Game."
